Case Study — SMEs & Professional Services

Kalgoorlie legal practice

The firm now runs on a single managed network, phone system and Microsoft 365 environment instead of a patchwork of legacy providers — with a recovered standby router for redundancy and a fully documented cabling record for the first time. About 99% of the existing cabling was reused, keeping the relocation's disruption to a minimum, and the carrier domain transfer was scheduled for a weekday specifically so full support was available if anything needed sorting quickly.

Business context

Relocating a law firm's office means every system has to be live again the moment staff walk in — phones, internet, email, and the network running everything else behind the scenes.

This engagement pulled together several capability layers at once rather than treating them as separate projects: Network & Connectivity handled the physical cutover — internet, firewall, wifi and cabling; Cloud, Security & Managed IT carried the Microsoft 365 tenancy, email security, backup and endpoint protection; and Managed Transformation carries the relationship forward, including the carrier domain transfer and a dedicated support mechanism for the weeks after go-live.

That's the model this case study is meant to show: infrastructure takeovers rarely stay inside one capability layer, and treating them as one coordinated delivery — rather than a stack of separate vendors — is what kept this move on schedule.

Problem statement

A Kalgoorlie law firm's office relocation meant taking over an entire IT and telecom environment on a hard deadline — legacy phone hardware, undocumented cabling, an M365 tenancy with licences expiring the same week as cutover, and a carrier domain transfer still pending with the outgoing provider. None of the existing infrastructure had been mapped in advance.

A full network, phone system, security and domain takeover — delivered without the firm missing a business day.

Solution delivered

We ran the internet and VoIP cutover as one coordinated move: a new 3CX AI Unified Communications platform replaced the old PABX, a UniFi UDM Pro went in as router, firewall and network security gateway, and we recovered and redeployed usable access points and an ADSL router already on site instead of replacing them outright. M365 licences were renewed and reassigned before expiry, with email security, backup and endpoint security scheduled straight after. Every data cable was tested and re-mapped, with the port map documented and left on-site in the comms room.

Technology stack

3CX AI Unified Communications, UniFi UDM Pro (router/firewall/gateway), Microsoft 365 tenancy with email security, backup and endpoint security, ADSL failover, structured cabling with documented port mapping.
